2. How to make file extensions visible.
By default, file extensions for known file types are hidden in Windows. However, you can change this setting so that file extensions are visible.
This is done in the 'Folder Options' window, as follows.

![]() |
File extensions will now be visible. |

3. Picture file extensions.
A picture file extension (eg '.jpg' or '.tif' or '.gif') specifies the way the data is coded when the picture is stored -
you must not change the extension using the 'File Rename' function as this will confuse any graphics program (including bed&fed). The picture processing code in the bed&fed website requires that only files with the '.jpg' extension will be accepted via the 'Upload Photo' section of the property profile editor. If your photo file does not have the '.jpg' extension it must be opened in a picture editing program (eg Microsoft 'Paint' which is included in all versions of Windows and can be found in the 'Accessories' folder) and immediately saved using 'Save as' from the file menu. Choose 'jpeg' or jpg' as the file type and the program will convert your photo file into a properly formatted jpeg (short for 'Joint Photographic Experts Group') file with the extension '.jpg'. |
